Abstract
618,619. Batteries. BURGESS BATTERY CO. Nov. 4, 1946, No. 32742. Convention date, Nov. 14, 1945. [Class 53] A dry cell is provided with a layer 19 of zinc oxide, hydrated lime, plaster of Paris of other material which will both absorb and form a solid body with any expanded and excess electrolyte formed during the operation of the cell. The materials may be mixed with a non-hardening material such as cotton, wood fibre, diatomaceous earth, silica gel, aluminium oxide, cement, talc, coal or carbon. Instead of being in powdered form the layer 19 may be a preformed shaped body. Wood fibres and zinc oxide for example may be suspended in water to form a slurry which is felted into a thick sheet and dried and cut into washers of the required size.
