Abstract
617,421. Electric resonators. PHILCO RADIO & TELEVISION CORPORATION. Dec. 14, 1945, No. 33902. Convention date, Feb. 29, 1944. [Class 40 (viii)] [Also in Group XL (a)] A rotatable tuner for an electric resonator is disposed with its axis extending transversely of both the electric and magnetic fields of the oscillations and includes a conducting member spaced laterally from the axis of rotation and movable between two extreme positions, in one of which the member forms a condenser of substantial capacity with one of the walls of the resonator and effects minimum displacement of the magnetic field, whereas in the other position the capacity is negligible while the member acts as a short-circuiting loop substantially affecting the magnetic field. In the construction shown, the tuner includes two members 5a and 5b which in one position form condensers with the top and bottom of a resonator in which they are situated. In an alternative construction, the tuner only bears a single member, in which case it has to be electrically connected to the wall of the container opposite to that with which the member forms a condenser. The element may be mounted on a spindle of dielectric material or a metal spindle if it passes through the wall at a point of zero current flow. The tuner 34 may be used in a reflex velocity modulation tube in which the resonator is formed of two semi-annular members 27 and 28, two semiannular clamping plates 29 and 30, and an annular clamping plate 31 with clamping screws 32.
