616,903. Ironing machines. ASHER, W. J. Sept. 19, 1946, No. 28110. '[Class 138(ii)] The pressing surface of the buck 10 of a collar-pressing machine is shaped somewhat like a low-pitched gable roof and comprises plane surfaces 14 which are inclined to one another and disposed one on each side of a segmental conical surface 26. The lines of the connection between the conical surface 26 and the two plane surfaces 14 intersect the edge of the back of the buck at the slightly-rounded apex 19 of the segment; the front edge of the segment forms an arc 24 which is positioned below the level of the apex and has its opposite ends 22 located in the planes 14. The buck may be formed of wood, with its shaped upper surface provided with appropriate padding and covering. The lower surface of the co-operating press element 30 is shaped so as to be complementary to the upper surface of the buck 10 and may be steam heated. Since the pressing surface provided by this arrangement is of gradually-increasing curvature from the arc 24 to the apex 19, the neckband of a collar 12 placed in the press as shown in Fig. 1 will be stretched to a lesser extent than the outer fold 35, thus providing adequate space for the tie when the collar is folded. The buck and co-operating press element may be used for pressing collars whether attached to, or separate from, shirts.
