Abstract
Terminally di-substituted pentamethylene tetranitramines in which the nitramine groups alternate with the methylene groups are obtained by treating 3 : 7-dinitropentamethylenetetramine with nitric acid. By carrying out the reaction in the presence of acetic anhydride, with 106 per cent nitric acid, or with 106 per cent nitric acid followed by treatment with alcohol 1 : 9-diacetoxy-1 : 9-dinitroxy and 1 : 9-dialkoxypentamethylene-2 : 4 : 6 : 8 - tetranitramines are obtained respectively.
