Abstract
615,588. Clamping shoes in footwear-making machines. BATA, NARODNI PODNIK. July 29, 1946, No. 22495. Convention date, March 23, 1943. [Classes 17 (i) and 112] Shoes or the like footwear, such as those of which the edges and perimeters of soles are to be polished or otherwise treated, are clamped individually, alternatively right and left, in a carrier which is moved relatively to a tool in plane rotational and translational movements in such manner that the position of say a right shoe is a mirror reflection of the position of the corresponding left shoe and two different sets of cam discs for producing the requisite relative movement between shoe and tool for shoes of opposite feet is unnecessary. In the form shown, a shoe, shown in full lines, is clamped in position in a carrier by resilient pads 15, 16, 17, 18 with resiliently mounted pivoted adjustable stops 1, 2, the former of which engages the upper edge, and the other the tread face, of the sole. The pads are carried by pistons 19, 20, 21 actuated by pressure fluid supplied to a branch pipe 33 of the pipe 31. For a shoe of opposite foot (shown dotted), the stop member 2 is engaged with the point of the toe of the upper and the member 1 with the face of the sole. The shoe carrier can thus perform the same working movements for the treatment of shoes of both right and left feet, of rotation about the axis of the clamping head or chuck 37 in a journal 38 and of translation of the slide 36, which is movable in the head to which the clamping device is attached. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the invention may also be applied to " automatic machines for sewing-through." This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
