[Class 27] [Also in Group II] In an automatic apparatus for dispensing a mixed drink, comprised of predetermined quantities of a flavour or syrup and of a diluent such as carbonated water, the flavour and diluent are discharged under pressure into a cup and discharge of the flavour does not commence until at least a substantial part of the diluent has been discharged. The energy of the flavour stream, which is directed away from the sides of the cup, is then dissipated in the diluent already in the cup and proper mixing is ensured. The carbonated water valve 15 and syrup valve 17 are operated by solenoids 16 and 18 controlled by a contact drum 28 driven by a timer motor M. The mechanism is coin-operated, an inserted coin momentarily closing contacts 22. This starts the motor M whose circuit is then maintained for the dispensing cycle by drum contact 31 engaging contacts 30 and 32. Drum contact 31 simultaneously engages a contact 35 to energize solenoid 16 so initiating the flow of carbonated water. Subsequently a stepped part 39 of the drum contact engages a contact 40 to energize solenoid 18 to open the syrup valve. If the carbonated water is then to be stopped the drum contact is cut away at 41; otherwise delivery of the carbonated water ceases with the syrup when the end of the drum contact passes all the contacts 30, 32, 35 and 40, when both valves close and the motor M stops. The syrup is delivered from a tank which is either maintained under pressure, or is furnished with a pressure-operated dispensing pump. In either case the pressure is obtained, through a reducing valve, from the carbondioxide supplying the water carbonator.
