Abstract
613,643. Dielectric heating. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and MADDOCK, A. J. June 24, 1946, No. 18856. [Class 39 (iii)] H.F. heating apparatus comprising an electrode compartment in which the electrodes are separated by the opening of the door to the compartment, of the type described in Specification 587,361, is provided with a door 1 carried by a pivoted arm 3 mounted on a shaft 4 and having a counterweight 5. Movement of the door to the position shown in chain line raises the support 18 to which is fixed one end of a wire cable 14; this movement is transmitted by idle pulleys 17 to the upper electrode 10 mounted on insulated supports 12 and guided by vertical members 13. The other end of the wire cable is fixed to a drum 15 which may be rotated by a worm carried on a shaft 16 from outside the compartment by means of a key inserted through an opening provided for the purpose. Rotation of the drum 15 provides initial adjustment of the gap between the electrodes in the operating position to suit the size of material to be heated, while the movement of the door raises the upper electrode to facilitate loading.
