[Class 39 (iii)] A resistance wire or tape 2 is wound on a smooth ceramic tube or rod 1 and a layer 3 of insulating paste or cement is simultaneously applied to the rod to space the turns. The element is baked, e.g. on a conveyer belt in an oven or by passing current through the wire to drive out the thinning agent from the cement, which remains as ridges between the turns of wire.
