Abstract
Trypsin and other exogenously secreted enzymes are extracted from the pancreas of mammals, more especially of horned cattle or pigs, by treating the disintegrated fresh or preserved glands with an acidulated aqueous medium at a relatively low temperature not exceeding 25 DEG C. and/or within a relatively short extraction period not exceeding 24 hours. Optimum extraction occurs with a pH or 1-4, preferably 2, extraction time of 2 hours, preferably 1/2 hour, and a temperature of approximately 0 DEG C.ALSO:Insulin may be extracted from the pancreas of mammals, more especially of horned cattle and pigs, by first extracting trypsin and other exogenously secreted enzymes from the disintegrated fresh or preserved glands by means of an acidulated aqueous medium at a relatively low temperature not exceeding 25 DEG C and/or p within a relatively short extraction period not exceeding 24 hours and then extracting the insulin in a manner known per the residue so obtained. Optimum enzyme extraction occurs with a pH of 1-4, preferably 2, an extraction time of 2 hours, preferably 1/2 -hour, and a temperature of approximately 0 DEG C.
