612,263. Variable contact resistances. BAYLISS, H. E. May 22, 1946, No. 15469. [Class 37] [Also in Group XXXVII] A resistance for a potentiometer provided with a contact strip (see Group XXXVII), is constructed by taking an unflattened cylindrical former on which wire is wound, as described in Specifications 566,950 and 566,971, cutting it along a line parallel to its axis on one side only, and then opening it out to produce a flat sheet having spaced separate conductors extending across it. The sheet is then cut into strips by a series of cuts at right angles to the direction of the original cut, and the ends of the separate wires 37 are joined by strips 38 to form a resistance element 36 consisting of a number of wires 37 in parallel. The element may be of variable width, and it may be applied to the potentiometer described in Specification 612,262.
