[Class 78 (i)] A hydraulic dust trap includes a casing structure affording an inlet 23 for dust and an outlet 28 for liquid and entrained dust, a chamber 20 into which clean water is introduced, a weir 25 over which the clean. liquid flows without splashing on to an inclined surface to form a moving liquid film thereon which entraps the dust particles, the whole being located within the casing structure. As shown, clean water is introduced at 27 into chamber 20 and excess water overflows over into pipe 29 and through flexible pipe 30 nto seal 31 and over into outlet 28. Pinhole 37 in pipe 29 allows a trickle of water down into seal 31 to maintain the level of the latter. Dust and water falling into seal 22 overflows over weir 36 and if blocked may be agitated by water introduced through water supply 35. 32, 33, 34 are observation windows. In modifications, the seals 31, 22 may be dispensed with and dirty water falls straight into an outlet 28 at the bottom of column 26. Alternatively, seal 31 may be dispensed with and pipe 30 may end beneath the surface of seal 22. Several dust traps may be built together with a common outlet 28 and several dust collectors may feed into one dust trap.
