[Class 65 (ii)] [Also in Group X] A frame with a closure arranged to hinge about either of two opposite edges has at least one pair of links pivoted respectively to opposite edges of the closure and to opposite edges of the frame, and latches coaxial with the hinges which can be disengaged to open one way, or help to support the closure for opening the other way. As shown, a casement frame 2 is connected to a subsidiary frame 3 by links 5 and 6 at the top and bottom. Pivot 7 of link 5 and pivot 9 of link 6 turn in sockets in frame 3, while pivots 8 of link 5 and 10 of link 6 turn in sockets in frame 2. Ball catohes 11, 13 in the casement and 12, 14 in frame 3 lie on the axes of the pivots and engage sockets 15, 17, 16, 18 at the ends of the links. Handles 21, 22 pivoted on the frame 3 carry catches 19, 20 which engage pins 23, 24 on the casement. The casement may be opened as at 25 by disconnecting catches 19, 11, 14, and pivoting about pins 8, 9, and 24, with link 5 stationary, alternatively by releasing catches 20, 12, 13 it may be rotated to position 26 about pins 7, 10, 23. The frame 3 may be hinged about the fixed frame 4 at 27 to position 30, and be latched at 28. The door 31 in Figs. 5, 7 is. connected to the frame 32 by links 33, 34 in a space at the top of the door. Lugs 35a on link 33, and 35b on link 34 pivot about bolts 37 in the frame, while lugs 36a on link 34, and 36b on link 33 connect to hinge pins 38 on the door. Ball catches on the frame engage in recesses in the bottoms of bolts 38. Holed lugs 42a, 42b on the door bottom receive retractable hinge pins 43a, 43b of the frame. The pins are coaxial with bolts 37, 38, and operated through pivoted levers 44, pivoted links 47, and a connecting lever 48, which is pivoted at 49, and oscillated by either foot. pedal 50a, 50b, and returned by springs 51. By depressing pedal 50a and releasing the ball catch on the left-hand side, the door is opened outwardly, about pin 43b, and bolts 37, 38 on the right-hand side, link 33 remaining stationary. Similarly it may be opened inwardly about the left-hand edge. The subsidiary frame may be similarly hinged to the fixed frame with the hinge axes parallel to or at an angle to those of the casement.
