Abstract

611,454. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. LARSSON, C. I. April 30, 1946, No. 13093. [Class 135] [Also in Groups XXII and XXIII] A machine tool for reproducing a pattern has a spring-loaded feeler 14 in the form of a longitudinally displaceable but non-rotatable rod which is in contact with the pattern 10 and carries on a threaded portion a nut 17 connected to the control valve 23 of a hydraulic servomotor 24. Axial movement of the nut and feeler rotates the motor which actuates the transverse feed mechanism of the machine and screws the nut along the feeler to close the control valve. The pattern, mounted in a holder 9 in threaded engagement with a shaft 11 connected by bevel gears 12 to the longitudinal feed mechanism of the tool, is rotated from the work-piece 2 by bevel gears 7 and a shaft 8. The nut 17 is secured to a gear 18 meshing with a pinion 28 mounted on the servomotor shaft which is connected through a self-locking transmission means 29-32 to the transverse feed mechanism of the tool. When the pattern produces axial displacement of the feeler in one direction or the other, a swinging arm 21 pivoted at 20 actuates a setting means 22,for the control valve 23 which then permits pressure fluid to flow through conduits 25, 26 to rotate the motor in one direction or the other to actuate the transverse feed mechanism of the tool while the pinion 28 screws the nut 17 back to its original position with respect to the control valve, thereby closing the latter and arresting the transverse movement of the tool. By altering the gear ratios between shafts 5 and 11 and 6 and 27, the scale of reproduction may be varied. The invention may be incorporated in machines performing milling, grinding or cutting operations and which work on metal, wood, textile fabrics or leather. The work-piece and pattern may be stationary.
