Abstract
In an aluminothermic or like exothermic process the temperature and/or the velocity of the reaction is or are reduced by adding to the thermic mixture and/or the components of the mixture a proportion of slag from a previous charge, ground to powder and/or grains, according to the contemplated temperature and/or velocity of reaction. A sudden increase of temperature after the termination of the reaction may be prevented by the addition of such a slag when the reaction has ended. The utilization of the invention in the production of manganese from manganese oxides is referred to.
