Abstract

601,686. Ammunition projectiles. LUMALAMPAN AKTIEBOLAG. April 20, 1945, No. 9934. Convention date, Feb. 27, 1942. [Class 9 (i)] A projectile having an outer casing 5, an inner core 6, and a supporting body, such as a member 10, for the core is characterized in that the body consists of a soft material, such as aluminium and is formed with cavities so disposed that deformation of the material near the cavities readily takes place when the parts of the projectile are assembled in position. The member 10 shown has a conical opening 1. which receives the base of the core 6 and the base of this opening has a recess 3. A further recess 4 is formed in the rear end of the member 10. The overall length of the member 10 is such that deformation of the material to lines 8, 12 occurs when the core 6 is of normal length, the initial shapes of the recesses 3, 4 having been hemi-spherical. The dotted pairs of lines 7, 13, and 9, 11, indicate the final shape of the recesses with cores respectively exceeding and not reaching the normal length. Instead of end recesses, lateral indentations or symmetrically arranged radial holes may be formed in the body. Specification 592,538 is referred to.
