[Class 20(ii)] A structural ele. ment has three .flanges, with parallel surfaces, intersecting at the same point and with the flanges 1, 2 forming a right angle and the thirc flange 5 substantially bisecting the obtuse angle subtended by the flanges 1, 2 and of such a width that the Moment of Inertia about the axis I, along which the flange 5 lies, is approximately equal to the Moment of Inertia about the axis II at right angles to I and passing through the centre of area A of the section. The element may be built up by various means or rolled in one piece. The flanges 1, 2 may be of unequal length, the flange 5 in that case being disposed at a slight angle to the bisector of the angle between the flanges 1, 2 in order to satisfy the conditions of approximately equal moments of inertia about the axes I, II.
