[Class 29] A high: humidity food storage compartment 5 of a refrigerator is cooled by a secondary evaporating-condensing refrigerating system 19 around the walls 4 of the compartment to maintain it at non-frosting temperature, and the compartment air is circulated by a fan 31 over the primary evaporator 25 under the control of a humidostat 32 in the food storage compartment. Fig. 3 shows the inner shell 4 of the refrigerator, which is enclosed in insulating material and an outer casing 3. A sharp-freezing storage section 13 of the well type accessible through a door 15, and an ice-making compartment 16 are cooled by the primary evaporator pipes 22, 26, 25 fed from the condenser through a capillary tube 23. The primary evaporator is extended by a pipe 27 to an evaporator element 20 forming the condenser of the secondary refrigerant circuit 19 surrounding the food chamber 5. When the humidity in the food chamber increases beyond the desired value the fan motor 30 is started by the humidostat 32 and draws air from the food chamber through a lower slot 35 in the rear wall of the chamber and through a casing 42 surrounding the ice-making compartment 16 and delivers the cooled air through a half-round conduit 29 welded to the inner shell 4 to an inlet slot 37 at the upper part of the rear wall of the chamber. Excess moisture in the air is condensed by the primary evaporator 25 and is collected in a sump 46 from which it is fed to the compressor 12 and vaporised, thus cooling the compressor. To prevent frosting in the casing 42 a layer 45 of insulating material is interposed between the evaporator pipes 25 and the finned wall 44 of the ice-making unit.
