Abstract
597,243. Electromagnetic ammeters and voltmeters. BUTLER, Ltd., H., and BUTLER, H. April 28, 1945, No. 10756. [Class 37] In an electrical measuring instrument of the moving coil type a firm anchorage for the pivot pins is provided by extending the pins through the thickness of the wall of the bobbin. In the instrument shown, Figs. 1, 3 and 4, a cylindrical core 12 mounted on magnet 11 is provided with spring-loaded jewel bearings (Fig. 2, not shown) on which is pivoted a coil bobbin 14, 18 by means of pivot pins 15 fitted tightly within inwardly projecting pivot housings 17 formed integrally with the wall of the bobbin frame. Mounted on each of the pins 15 on the outer side of the winding 18 is an insulating washer 19 having projecting tabs 20 which are bent over the edges of the bobbins frame 14 and an insulating ring 21 over which is placed on one side of the frame 14 a cranked indicating arm 22 locked to the head 24 of a balancing arm 23 and on the other side a metal fixing plate 30. The ends of the winding 18 are connected respectively to the head 24 and plate 33 which have lugs 34, 31 respectively to which are secured the ends of the hair springs. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the pivot pins are reversed for external mounting.
