Abstract
597,235. Fish-filleting machines. ATLANTIC COAST FISHERIES CO. March 9, 1945, No. 5952. Convention date, May 9, 1944. [Class 28 (ii)] In a fish-filleting machine, e.g. as described in Specifications 452,688, 502,291, 589;509 and 597,237 and in U.S.A. Specification 2,179,821 in which fillets are partly cut off from the back bone by a lower pair of disc cutters and from the other (belly) side by a top pair of disc cutters, a pair of rotary traction discs 14 are provided below the top disc cutters 10 to enter the filleting incisions in. the back of the fish, the traction discs being spaced close together to. support the back bone during the cutting action of the top cutters 10 in cutting down along the spikes from the tail up to the beginning of the belly cavity. The spikes of the back bone extend down between the traction discs 14 which are notched to firmly grip the knuckles or joints of the back fins and bones. The discs 14 are spaced by their shoulders 32 and are secured together by a pin in holes 36. Each disc has one peripheral edge bevelled at 37, and is provided with short radial undercuts 38 and with notches 46 on its periphery. The bevels 37 receive the knuckles of back bone proper to its undercuts 38, and providing a pull on the back bone to push the fish against ribbing knives. Peripheral notches 46 sever the uncut skin adjacent the tail of the fish. A hook 24 at each side guides and depresses this part of the tail into contact with the notches 46, as described in Specification 502,291. A guide 22 straightens and directs the fins on the belly side between the knives 10.
