596,815. Moulding jewel bearings. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. June 28, 1945, No. 16531. Convention date, June 30, 1944. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXIII and XXXIV] A jewel bearing blank is formed by intermittently advancing a thermoplastic rod 32 into a zone between a mandrel 42 and a ram 36 where it is rotated between flames (not shown) and becomes plastic; the ram is then advanced and forces the plastic material into a bushing 41 previously placed on the mandrel, the latter being shaped to form a surface 43 and aperture 44. Simultaneously with shaping, the rod is severed by shears 23, 24. The excess material 50 is broken off after cooling and the surface 54 is ground flush. The bearing (see Group XXXIV) is then "olived" by centrifugal force (see Group XXIII).
