Abstract
596,697. Stud fastenings. WESTLAND AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and RICHARDS, S. T. A. Oct. 30, 1945, No. 28673. [Class 44] A stud for securing a panel a to a resilient wire e attached to an aircraft frame-member, has a peripheral groove g for engagement with a dumb-bell-shaped hairpin spring c (Fig. 3), carried in the U-shaped channels m in the bush j, when the stud is simultaneously turned and raised. to disengage its bayonet slots o from the wire e, as shown in Fig. 2. The edge h of the groove g lies in a plane normal to the axis of the stud, and the other edge i lies in the surface of a cone, the apex angle of which is approximately 90 degrees. A quarter-turn in an anticlockwise direction from the position of Fig. 2 enables the edge of the stud to rest on the wire e with the extremities of the bayonet slots o at right angles to it, without further axial move. ment of the stud. In use, a number of studs are provided in the panel, spaced apart at a convenient distance, say 6 inches. The invention may be used with fastening devices as described in Specification 596,669.
