<PICT:0596427/III/1> <PICT:0596427/III/2> <PICT:0596427/III/3> Decorative circumferential lines are applied simultaneously to a number of dinner plates &c. in a machine comprising a rotating table 15 driven continuously by an electric motor 13, belts 11, worm 6 and worm wheel 5 and provided with a number of plate holders 18 arranged around its circumference and rotated continuously on their axes by means of pulleys 21 and a belt 22 passing around all the pulleys and having a radial loop passing around a stationary central sheave 23, each plate holder having mounted adjacent thereto on the rotary table a pivoted colour applicator 41 supplied with colour by its own bottle 57, cam and lever operated pump 53 and pipe 54, Fig. 3, which applicator is lifted for part of the rotation of the table by means of a projecting arm 45 engaging a cam 47 to enable a lined plate to be removed and a new one placed in the holder and for the other part of the rotation of the table is allowed to contact the plate to apply a coloured line around its edge as shown in Fig. 3 or inside the plate as shown in Fig. 10, where the applicator has an end tip 97 of absorbent material. The applicator shown in Fig 3 comprises three rollers, the lower one of which is of metal gauze 73 through which the colour fed by the pump 53 and tube 54 percolates on to a band of absorbent material 72 disposed around the rollers and rotated from time to time by a head 71 to distrimute the colour. In a modification the rollers are rotated automatically by a ratchet.
