Abstract
596,232. Dental articulators. TAYLOR, G. C. Nov. 29, 1944, No. 23759. [Class 81 (ii)] A method of making artificial dentures includes the step of moulding the model of the relevant part of the patient's mouth around one end of a plate so that the end is anchored in the model, the opposite end of the plate having a portion adapted to be clamped in an articulator to permit adjustment of the plate angularly with respect to the clamping means about an axis disposed at or near the clamped end of the plate and disposed transversely of the length of the plate, the moulding step being performed during the formation of the model itself against an impression taken from the patient's mouth. The articulator comprises a base 10 formed with a clamp 7 having a cylindrical seating 12 for the cylindrical portion 9 of the lower plate 8, the two halves of the clamp being urged apart by spring 16. A spigot 11 on the base carries a post 20 which may be locked in any position of rotation by tightening screw 24 carried by split clamp 22. This is retained in the post by screw 21. The upper end of post 20 is forked to carry a head 26, the movement of which about pivot 27 is limited by an adjustable stop 28. The upper clamp 34 for plate 42 is formed with a cylindrical stem 33 which is slidably and rotatably mounted in a bore in the head 26, and which may be clamped by tightening screw 37 in a split clamp 35. The seatings in clamps 7, 34 and the corresponding parts of plates 8, 42 may be ribbed or grooved as shown, and the remaining parts of the plates, which are forked, may be formed with projections to improve anchorage.
