Abstract

595,993. Catburetters. KITTLER, M. J., and ENSINGER, R. L. July 12, 1945, No. 17875. [Class 7 (iii)] Means for supplying additional fuel during periods of engine acceleration, Fig. 1, comprises a fuel chamber 11 connected to a source of fuel under pressure and provided with an outlet valve 12 and a second fuel chamber 18 communicating with the first fuel chamber through a restricted passage 28 and having a flexible end wall 20, a spring controlled piston 15 between the chambers and manual means 23 associated with an engine throttle valve for flexing the wall of the second chamber to control the spring controlled piston the piston being operatively associated with the outlet valve whereby the latter is opened for a time depending on the strength of the spring 17 associated with the piston. Fig. 2 shows an induction passage including a pair of geared throttle valves 34, 35. A lever 45 attached to the shaft of a gear 43 which operates the throttles carries a roller 46 operating upon an arm 47 constituting an extension of the arm 23 which operates the mov-. able wall 20. This lever is connected to a piston 21 (Fig. 1) and through a spring 22 acts upon the diaphragm so that when the throttle valves are opened the diaphragm is pressed into the chamber 18. A non-return valve 29 enables the chamber 18 to be refilled when the throttle valves are closed. A relief valve 48 is provided to prevent an excessive quantity of fuel being discharged if the throttles are opened too quickly: A valve 30 which controls a connection between the chambers 11 and 18 is opened when a lever which controls the richness of the mixture is in slow running cut-off position and this renders the device inoperative when the lever is in this position. The normal fuel nozzle is shown at 36.
