Abstract

595,756. Calculating - apparatus. CARLISLE, C. H. Aug. 31, 1944, No. 16638. [Class 106 (i)] Means for use in determining the ratio R of the height of a building to the length of its shadow measured on an aerial photograph from the formula comprises three nomograms and a sliding- rule device, Fig. 4. The nomograms are used as described in the Specification for evaluating various terms in the formula. The sliding rule comprises a co-tan scale A from which the value of R is read by a cursor (not shown) after the slider has been set to bring a central mark thereon adjacent a degree value on scale B obtained from a nomogram and the cursor has then been set along a degree scale C on the slide as determined by another nomogram. Scale E is an enlargement of a section of scale A.
