Abstract
A sulphonate of guanidine, or of a mono- or disubstituted guanidine, is obtained by heating dicyandiamide with (a) approximately two molecular proportions of an ammonium salt of a sulphonic acid of the formula R.SO3.NH4, wherein R represents alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl, or (b) a salt of a primary or secondary mono-amine with a sulphonic acid, optionally formed in situ from a mixture of an amine and the sulphonic acid. In examples, dicyandiamide is heated with (1) ammonium benzenesulphonate, to obtain guanidine benzenesulphonate; (2) ammonium toluene-p-sulphonate, to obtain guanidine toluene-p-sulphonate; (3) ammonium methanesulphonate, to obtain guanidine methanesulphonate; (4) methylamine benzenesulphonate, to obtain methylguanidine benzenesulphonate; (5) ammonium phenol - p - sulphonate, to obtain guanidine phenol - p - sulphonate; (6) dimethylamine toluene - p - sulphonate, to obtain N : N - di - methylguanidine toluene - p - sulphonate; (7) isopropylamine toluene-p-sulphonate, to obtain isopropylguanidine toluene-p-sulphonate; (8) cyclohexylamine toluene-p-sulphonate, to obtain cyclohexylguanidine toluene-p-sulphonate; (9) aniline benzenesulphonate, to obtain phenylguanidine benzenesulphonate.
