[Class 19] An appliance for cleaning floors, walls and the like comprises a mop inserted on the end of a handle, said mop being movable relatively to a rigid housing into which the mop may be drawn and rotated and squeezed tightly to eject excess water therefrom and from which the mop may be projected to extend through and beyond an annular scrubbing brush fitted to an annular member provided at the outer end of the housing. In the drawings, the mop head 1 is mounted on the lower end of a mop handle 2 by means of a flexible or universal joint 3. The mop handle is slidably engaged in the tubular sheath 4 extending from the upper end of a holder 5 for a scrubbing brush 6. The holder 5 consists of a hollow metal head which may be aluminium and may be of approximately conical form. The brush is supported in an annular ring 7 which is pivoted to the ends of lugs on the metal head 5 and may comprise two or more arcuate sections which may be mounted in a recess in the annular ring in a detachable manner. To assist the wringing out of the mop when it is twisted in the housing 5, the latter is preferably provided with a radial rib 11. The mop handle may be located in position with the mop extended from or retracted into the housing by any suitable means such as by snapping a spring clip 13 connected to the sheath 4 into recesses 12 in the handle. The appliance may include means for carrying soap in liquid or solid form or in a semi-solid or plastic state and for feeding the soap to the floor surface or to the bristles of the brush, thus in Fig. 5 a block of soap 15 is slidably mounted in a box-like receptacle 16 open at its lower end, the soap being fed to the floor or to the bristles by means of the hand screw 17.
