Abstract

Hair is permanently waved by coiling up or shaping and holding each strand to the form desired and then directly and selectively applying to each strand a waving solution, the hair being isolated in an open-top liquid impervious enclosure or shield (see Group XIV) which allows free access to each coil of hair and also prevents liquid from flowing down the face and neck. The treating liquid may be an aqueous solution of thio-glycollic acid. The hair is wound round the joined halves of a mandrel, as described in Specification 589,278, the halves being retained temporarily in interlock by an elastic containing strip. The strip is then released and the mandrel halves can be-withdrawn leaving the coil available for flushing liquid both inside and out.
