Abstract
588,220. Mixing-machines. CHAIN BELT CO. Feb. 6, 1945, No. 3020. Convention date, March 1, 1944. [Class 86] The framework of a portable concrete mixer is normally supported by and tiltable about a pair of wheels, and means is provided for raising the mixer off the wheels to obtain a higher discharge point. The means comprises ground engageable elements carried by the frame forwardly and rearwardly of the wheels and a device for tilting the frame in order to adjust the elements so that they support the mixer. The ground engaging elements may consist of vertically adjustable legs and the tilting may be effected by a jack. A rotary mixing drum may be mounted within the framework, and in order to avoid the tendency of the drum to rise from its supporting rollers due to the shifting of the contents toward the upwardly moving side of the drum, the supporting rollers may be disposed unsymmetrically in respect to the vertical plane of the axis of rotation of the drum. A discharge chute may be tilted to and from a position in which it has a major portion within the mixing chamber by mechanism operable by a lever which may be secured during transport of the mixer in a position which does not project beyond the external portion of the chute. A frame 20, Fig. 1, including vertical U-shaped members 22, is normally supported on wheels 21, and may be supported in a raised position on vertical legs 62 slidable in sleeves 60 at the rear corners of the frame and on inclined legs 68 at the front corners. Each leg is secured in its sleeve by a pin passed transversely through the sleeve and one of a number of apertures in the leg whereby the height of the mixer may be varied. The frame is tilted for securing the legs by a jack 71 normally maintained in an inclined, inoperative position by a catch 73. A rotary mixing drum 23, Fig. 3, is supported on rollers 24, 25, disposed unsymmetrically in respect to the vertical plane 75 of the axis of rotation. A discharge chute 50 is tiltable by a hand lever 95 from its discharge position, shown in Fig. 10, to its position during mixing, shown in Fig. 9. Clockwise movement of the lever 95, Fig. 10, rotates a quadrant arm 91 rigid with a shaft 85 carried in a bearing 86 on the frame member 22. The shaft 85 carries a crank arm 84 which operates through linkage members 82, 80 to rotate the shaft 51 to which the chute 50 is secured. Stops are provided to limit the movement of the lever 95 between the two positions shown. During transport of the mixer the lever 95 is moved into a vertical position, shown in dotted lines in Fig. 10, by removing the pin 98 from the hole 99 to disengage the lever from the quadrant 91 and replacing the pin in the hole 100 to secure the lever when it is in its vertical position. The mixer includes a storage tank from which water is supplied to the mixing drum through an adjustable measuring mechanism.
