586,592. Electric cables. HENLEY'S TELEGRAPH WORKS CO., Ltd., W. T., and DUNSHEATH, P. Nov. 23, 1942, No. 16588. [Class 36] [Also in Groups XXI and XXXIII] Long flexible floats, such as the cores of water-buoyant electric cables, consist of a connected chain of hollow cylindrical containers 1 with clearance 4 at their outer edges, one or both ends of each container being of flexible metal to permit of angular deviation of the containers. The cylindrical parts 2 may be of metal, plywood, or plastic and the ends 5, 6 of thin metal, e.g., tin-plate, one or both of the ends being conical, curved, flat, or corrugated. The connection consists of soldering or spotwelding, hollow or solid rivets, flat or folded metal strips or a short rubber plug. The containers may be filled with gas under pressure, introduced through apertures afterwards sealed off or generated within by introducing gasproducing pellets, and the gas may serve to produce any desired bulging of the ends 5, 6. The core may be covered with an conductor-wire layer 25, rubber-proofed fabric tape 27, a second layer 26, a similar wrapping 28 of tape and a tough rubber sheath 28.
