Abstract
586,316. Wireless receiving sets. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. May 6, 1944, No. 8610. Convention date, May 6,1943. [Class 40 (v)] The invention comprises a device for predetermining whether a radio receiver is on or off, and which of two push-button tuners shall be operative, for each quarter-hour interval throughout the major part of the day. The mechanism is mounted on a circular frame 22, Fig. 2, secured to the rear of the front panel 10 of the receiver, through which is seen the face 15 of an electric clock. A cam 83 is rotated once an hour by the clock motor and has four lobes each terminated by an axial edge 87. Thus, in each quarter of an hour cam 83 engages pin 62 to turn lever 55 clockwise about pivot 56 until edge 87 is reached. Lever 55 then suddenly returns due to spring 74 to effect actuation of the selected push-button 26 by means of oppositely directed pawls 66, 67 at the upper end of lever 55. The selection is determined by the amount of return travel of lever 55. This is determined by a lever 48 coupled by pin 50 to a member 52 which is coupled by pin 54 to lever 55. The upper end of lever 48 coacts with recesses 31, 32, 33 on a setting lever 17, according to the three angular positions of lever 17. Recesses 31, 32 allow full and partial return of lever 55 to select appropriate push-buttons. Recess 33 allows no return, and in this position a lug on lever 55 engages a pin 95<1> to open the receiver supply circuit at 95. Lever 48 is carried on a bracket 47 which is rotated by the clock once per day, and the upper end of lever 48' engages a succession of setting levers 17 arranged at quarterhour intervals round the clock face. According to the angular setting of each lever 17 so is the receiver tuned during each quarter-hour interval. A pair of locking levers (not shown) coact with slots in disc 88 to hold the mechanism in its set position during the quarter-hour intervals while lever 48 is passing from one setting lever to the next. The time tuning may be put out of operation by turning a knob 18 which causes a bar 76 to move upwards to turn actuating lever 55 in a clockwise direction to maintain the parts 66, 67 free of the pushbuttons. At the same time a switch (not shown) is actuated to close a shunt circuit round switch 95. Fig. 10 shows a modification suitable for selecting more than two stations. Here, as before, the released position of lever 55 is determined by stops on the setting levers (not shown) and this determines the position of a rack 911 urged to the left by spring 96. The rack is locked in each adjusted position by the interaction of lugs 93<1> with slots in rotatable disc 88. In its left or off position, rack 91<1> opens the supply circuit at 95. In its four other positions it sets shaft 103 and switches 104, 105 to select appropriate tuning elements. U.S.A. Specification 2,209,959 is referred to.
