586,182. Wireless signalling. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and RATTUE, E. A. Nov. 27, 1944, No. 23605. [Class 40 (v)] In a wireless communication system comprising a transmitting station and a number of receiving stations, selection of any one receiving station is made in response to the transmission of signals comprising trains of pulses alternately of two different carrier frequencies and which are keyed in a manner characteristic of the station to be selected. The transmitter oscillator 2 operates on one of two adjacent frequencies (e.g. 2.002 and 2.004 Mcs. /sec.) determined by the piezoelectric crystals 5, 6 connected to the opposite contacts 11, 12 of the relay contact assembly 8. Operation of the dialling means 10, interrupting the energizing circuit of the relay 9, causes a predetermined number of reversals of the contacts 8, and the transmission of a corresponding series of R.F. pulses, alternate pulses being of the alternative carrier frequencies. In the receiver, the amplified R.F. pulses are passed to a mixing valve 16 whose oscillator section operates at a third adjacent frequency (e.g. 2.000 Mcs./sec.) determined by the piezoelectric crystal 17. The resultant A.F. pulses (i.e. 2 kcs. and 4 kcs.) are separated by means of crystal filters 18, 19 and applied to the control grids of the twin detector valve 20, 21. The rectified D.C. pulses in the anode circuits are applied to the opposing windings 22, 23 of a relay 24, successive pulses thus causing alternate reversals of the relay contacts 25. The resultant energizing of the selector-unit windings 28 causes stepped operation of the ratchetwheel 32. Transmission of the correct digit trains of pulses causes the wheel 32 to be latched after each train, the final position taken up completing the circuit 33 and energizing the relay 34. Energization of the relay 34 closes the locking contacts 35 and also closes contacts 36 to ring the alarm bell 37. An interrupter key 38 may be provided for release of the locking circuit, and known means may be employed for returning the selector mechanism 32 to normal.
