Abstract

585,137. Automatic exchange equipment. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Feb. 9, 1945, No. 3287. Convention date, March 10, 1944. [Class 40 (iv)] A bank strip for use in a selector comprises an insulating frame 10, Fig. 1, of moulded plastic in the shape of a hollow rectangle, in the sides of which are embedded terminal pins 11. The projecting ends of these, on one or both sides, may be employed as selector, contacts. Multipling wires 18 run transversely across the pins, and are separated from them by an insulating plate 20, Fig. 2, having appropriately placed holes so that the wires may be welded to the pins. At their ends, the wires are located in grooves in the ends of the frame 10 and are held to the plate 20 by an application or insulating lacquer. Those parts or the pins 11 which are embedded in the sides of the frame may be knurled or bent to ensure positive location in the moulding. When a number of the strips is to be mounted in a rack, as for use in a selector, groups of strips are placed face to face and clamped between transverse frames 30, 31, Fig. 5, being located in a vertical plane by projections 33, Fig. 1, engaging corresponding grooves in the frames. In this case, the multipling wires are made continuous throughout a vertical run of strips, the lengths between adjacent bank strips being covered by insulating sleeving. The edges of the moulded frames may be chamfered so as to provide V-shaped grooves 53, Fig. 2, between adjacent strips when they are mounted in a rack. A connecting wire 49 between pins in the same strip can then be run in the appropriate groove and attached to the pins by collars 50 on the terminal pins.
