Abstract
In processes for the catalytic conversion of hydrocarbons, e.g., cracking, dehydrogenation, polymerization, isomerization, of the kind in which a suspension of hydrocarbon vapours and catalyst is passed upwardly through a vertical reaction chamber of enlarged cross section as compared with the inlet and exit passages thereto, the chamber is provided with horizontally arranged baffles which prevent recirculation of the catalyst; a similar chamber is provided for regenerating the spent catalyst. A suspension of vapours and catalyst is introduced through pipe 16 into a reaction chamber <PICT:0584252/III/1> <PICT:0584252/III/2> <PICT:0584252/III/3> 10 provided with perforated horizontal baffle plates 12. The cracked vapours leave the chamber through pipe 18 and are separated from catalyst in a separator 42 passing thence through line 44 for further treatment, e.g., fractionation and recovery of gasoline. The fouled catalyst falls through a pipe 48 and suspended in steam supplied through line 54 to mixer 52, is fed upwardly through a similar vessel 62 also provided with baffles 64. Oxygenating gases are supplied through line 69 to burn off carbonaceous deposits and regenerate the catalyst. The suspension is passed through a separator 74 where the catalyst is separated and fed to hopper 22 for return through line 32 to the reactor 10. Modified form of baffle plates are shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
