[Class 29] [Also in Group XXXV] The food compartment 22 is cooled by air drawn by a fan 38 over the evaporator 32, 34 surrounding a freezing compartment 26 separated from the food compartment by a glass shelf 24, the cold air passing through passages 36 around the food compartment and returning to the evaporator and the speed of the fan is controlled by a vibrator 62 responsive to the temperature in the storage compartment. A common door 28 provides access to the compartments, and the freezing compartment 26 is cooled through its bottom wall by serpentine tubing 32 supplied with refrigerant from a condenser 46 through a restrictor 52. The second portion of the evaporator comprises finned tubes 34 located in the air passage way beneath the fan 38 driven by a motor 40. Operation of the compressor 44 is controlled by a thermostat 56 in the freezing compartment, the temperature being adjusted by a knob 58. The fan motor 40 is controlled by a thermostat 62 in the food compartment, comprising a bimetal strip 74, Fig. 2, upon which is mounted an electric heater 72 in the motor circuit. A contact 76 on the bimetal strip engages a fixed contact 68 when the strip. is heated,. to short circuit the heater 72 whereupon the upward bending of the strip opens the contacts. The cycle of opening and closing the contacts is repeated rapidly and the speed of the fan motor is controlled in accordance with the percentage of time the contacts are closed, which is governed by the temperature of the food compartment 22. The, bimetal strip is adjusted by a screw 80.
