Abstract

582,727. Cooling-towers. BLANCZIK, K. W., and WESTERGAARD, O. L. B. Feb. 18, 1944, No. 3094. [Class 64 (i)] A cooling-tower comprises a housing 1, locating an irrigation stack 2, and an upwardlyextending air stack which consists of a central duct 7 of substantially angular cross-section surrounded by a series of contiguous ducts 8 and is formed as a monolithic structure, e.g., of concrete cast-in situ, supported by columns or posts 9 some or all of which may also support the stacking 2. Preferably the central duct 7 is hexagonal in cross-section and the outer ducts 8 of hexagonal form interiorly and semi-circular exteriorly, as shown, and, if desired, the duct 7 is made higher than the others. The lower part of the housing 1 may be cylindrical with a lattice formation 4, to provide air inlets 5., and a conical upper part or roof 6; alternatively the housing is wholly conical with a flat roof immediately surrounding the duets 8.
