Abstract
581,893. Parachute flares. SCHERMULY, C. D., SCHERMULY, A. J., and SCHERMULY, C. Dec. 17, 1942, No. 17929. [Class 9 (ii)] A parachute flare provided with a collapsable flexible screen 8, 10, as described in Specification 561,755, has the flare enclosed in a two-part hinged casing 1 with a lid 12 which lies over the plate 7 to which both the upper arms 10 of the screen and the parachute cords 11 are attached. When the parachute opens, the " snatch " pulls the plate 7 upwardly, removes the cap 12 and allows the casing to fall off and the screen to expand. The plate 7 is guided in its upward movement by a rod 6, the ends of which engage slots 5 in an extension 4 of the flare casing 3. The lid 12 may be attached directly to the parachute cords.
