Abstract

579,674. Gun turrets. RICE, E. A. B., ROSE, A. G., CURTIS, S., NICHOLLS, K. H., and ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. Nov. 20, 1943, No. 19434. [Class 92 (ii)] Relates to gun turrets for aircraft, as described in Specification 577,904, in which one or more automatic guns 11 are mounted for elevation on a trainable platform 13. According to the present invention, one or more ammunition belt boxes 16, 17 of arcuate shape are movable on corresponding arcuate tracks formed on the platform. The belt ends are connected together as shown in Fig. 4, the belt passing first from the rear, box 16 over rollers 18, 19, to a guide member 21 freely mounted on the trunnion-axis of the gun 11. A spring catch 36 is provided on the track to engage a recess in the base of the rear box, the catch being retained in inoperative position by a spring bolt 43. The lids of the boxes are retained by spring catches 34.
