Abstract

578,856. Pocket spring mattresses &c. RHODES, Ltd., W., and BINCH, A. H. March 10, 1944, No. 4493. [Class 52 (iv] A flexible tube 1 for use in the manufacture of pocket spring mattresses or upholstery is closed along both sides 4, 5, open at one end, and formed at intervals with closures or sutures 6, 7 extending inwardly from one or both sides so as to leave a longitudinal passage way as wide as the diameter of the springs 8 which are inserted in a compressed condition. The textile tube is bunched up on the delivery plates 9, 10 of a machine for compressing and delivering the springs in succession of the type described in Specification .410,468, the plates 9, 10 passing through the passage way between the sutures 6, 7. As the springs 8 are delivered the tube 2 is withdrawn manually so that each spring is released into a pocket formed between the sutures, and the spring is then twisted through 90‹ so as to fill the pocket. Lengths of pocketed springs so formed may be joined side by side by staples to form a spring surface.
