Abstract

578,793. Catalytic apparatus. UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO. June 28, 1944, No. 12328. Convention date, Jan. 30, 1943. [Class 1 (i)] A catalytic process for the conversion of fluid reactants, e. g., hydrocarbons, employs two beds of fluidized contact material, e. g., for reaction and regeneration respectively, and particles from each bed are withdrawn and passed into the other bed while being maintained in a dense phase fluidized condition. Fig. 2 shows a reactor 55 into which the reactants are introduced by line 65, containing a fluidized catalyst bed up to level 63. Catalyst is withdrawn below the level by line 69 to regenerator 56 into which air is admitted by line 70. From the fluidized bed in the regenerator catalyst is returned to the reactor by line 75. The heat required by the endothermic conversion is supplied by the heat of the regenerated catalyst and it may be supplemented by burning fuel in the regenerator.
