Abstract
578,300. Blasting &c. fuzes; explosives. HALL, C. R. L., JONES, E., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 29, 1942, No. 8904. [Classes 9 (i) and 9 (ii)] High-tension electric fuzeheads suitable especially for seismographic purposes and comprising a compound polepiece of insulating sheet material covered with metal foil on two opposed faces and an insulating plug enclosing part of the polepiece, have a mass of granules of deflagrating compound, in which each granule is covered with graphite, compacted around the exposed end of the polepiece. The graphited granules may be formed by corning the powdery material, such as a basic lead salt of 2-mono-nitroresorcinol, with the aid of a water-soluble adhesive such as gum arabic and, after drying, rolling or tumbling the granules in graphite until they are separately covered. The hightension polepiece 1 has lead-in wires 5 soldered to the foils 2, 3, and a plug 10 of insulating material such as synthetic resin is moulded around one end of the polepiece and inserted in a casing 11. Graphited granules of deflagrating material 12 are then compacted under great pressure around the exposed end of the polepiece and a perforated retaining disc 13 is placed over the material.
