Abstract
576,987. Strips of staples. BOCJL CORPORATION. May 19, 1944, No. 9681. Convention date, Aug. 14, 1943. [Class 89 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] Staples with a head 5, Fig. 1 expanded at 6 leaving side pieces 7 and legs 2, the head being turned at right angles to the plane of the legs during driving, are formed from a narrow strip A, Fig. 3 by making central slits a with intervening H-shaped slits b, c. A succession of punches gradually expand the strip to the stage where inclined cuts d sever the staples forming the bevel shoulders 4 and the points 3. In a modification M-shaped staples are made by punching holes centrally in a strip and making central slits from one side of the hole and pairs of slits from the edges of the opposite side. Strips of connected staples are made by slitting at f, g, Fig. 7, expanding at 13, and bending down the legs 14 at h.
