Abstract

574,373. Wireless receiving sets. PHILCO RADIO & TELEVISION CORPORATION. Jan. 19, 1944, No. 1049. Convention date, Jan. 28, 1943. [Class 40 (v)] A midget portable receiver 1 has a loop antenna structure 4 hinged to the back of the casing at 5 and normally arranged to be a snap fit in a peripheral recess 6. The antenna may be pivoted to the position shown to form a stand for the set when on a table, or it may be pivoted to extend vertically above the set. In the latter position it may serve as a carrying handle or may be used to hang the set up on a lampbracket &c. which may also serve as a signal pick-up. Fig. 5 shows a section through the loop antenna 4 which comprises a number of turns 9 of insulated copper wire bound together by an insulating cement such as polystyrene and placed in a half shell 8 of hard insulating plastic formed with supporting ribs 13. The ends of the loop are brought out as short leads 15. A similar half shell of plastic is cemented in position and, after careful drying, the lead apertures are sealed with cement 19. Two half cylinders of metal (not shown) are placed round each of the reduced parts 16 of the shell 8 to form the inner hinge members 21, Fig. 2, and the leads 15 are soldered to them respectively. The outer hinge members 5 are held to the casing by screws 30 which may also serve for the electrical connection of the antenna to the set.
