Abstract

573,814. Purifying liquids. AMERICAN CYANAMID CO. Jan. 25, 1943, No. 1254. Convention date, Jan. 22, 1942. [Class 46] [Also in Group III] Separation of a number of different cations in a fluid medium is effected by passing it through a carbonaceous zeolite, which has been saturated with a solution containing a strong cation and a weak anion, and selectively collecting the effluent. Suitable ion-exchange materials are those prepared according to Specifications 450,540, 450,574, 450,575, 451,899, 455,374, 467,240 and 513,801. According to an example, such a material is saturated with a solution of copper acetate. A solution containing copper acetate and silver nitrate is then passed through and an effluent containing silver free from copper is collected. In other examples gold chloride is separated from sodium chloride, and uranyl nitrate from sodium chloride.
