[Class 7 (v)] The engine is rotated slowly at first, by power transmitted from a reversible electric motor a to a claw c through both gear trains d, e, a unidirectional clutch p being then operative ; to effect starting, the engine is rotated in the same direction at a sufficiently high speed by reversing the motor when the power is transmitted through the train e only, the unidirectional clutch o being operative and the clutch p which operates in the opposite direction being inoperative. A modification of the invention utilising different gear trains is described and illustrated.
