Abstract

571,379. Pivots. SAY, A. W., MARTIN, R. A., and PLESSEY CO., Ltd. Dec. 11, 1943, No. 20767. [Class 65 (ii)] One or more rotatable drums 1, on spindles 2, are prevented from rotating by bands 3 having lugs 7 on their open ends. The bands are held by pins 5 on a frame 6, and are preferably of varying cross-section so that the bore will remain circular when the band is opened by oppositely-sliding lugs 15 on bars 8, to release the drums. The bars have slots 9 for support pins 11, and are moved in opposite directions by a rotatable cam 12 which is rotated by a hand-knob. Reverse movement of the knob releases the tension on the bands which again grip the drums. A spring 16 may be used to hold the two plates 8 against the cam 12. Means may be provided for indicating when the clamp is engaged or free. Each band preferably has a second moment of area at any point which is proportional to the leading moment at that point.
