571,092. Firing ceramic hollow-ware. MINTONS, Ltd., and CAMPBELL, A. J. Nov. 13, 1943, No. 18922. [Class 87 (i)] Hollow ceramic articles, such as vitreous translucent bodies e.g. cups of bone china, are supported in inverted position during the biscuit fire on a fired refractory support 10, the upper end 13 of which engages the inner surface of the bottom of the article while an upwardly tapering lower portion 11 supports the inner periphery of the edge of the article, portions of the support which contact the article being coated with alumina or other material which will not react with the material of the article. The portion 11 of the support is dimensioned so as to support the rim of the article in the pre-fired and fired conditions, shown respectively on the left-hand and right-hand side in the figure.
