Abstract

A catalyst for the reduction of aldehydes or ketones to alcohols is made by precipitating a copper salt solution with an alkali silicate solution of a defined composition. The reduction of acetaldehyde, acetone, cyclohexanone, furfural and benzaldehyde to the corresponding alcohols is described.
