Abstract
A solid copolymer having a molecular weight above 15,000 made by copolymerizing an isoolefine and a conjugated diolefine as described in the parent Specification, is compounded with sulphur and a wax. The iso-olefine specified is isobutylene and the diolefine may be butadiene, isoprene, pentadiene-1,3, dimethyl butadiene or cyclopentadiene. 1 to 100 parts of wax and 1 to 5 parts of sulphur may be added per 100 parts of copolymer. The wax may be paraffin, ozokerite, carnauba, candelilla, japan, montan, p ceresin, spermaceti, beeswax or a synthetic wax produced in the carbon monoxide-hydrogen synthesis. Stearic acid, zinc oxide, carbon black, clay lithopone, titanium oxide, whiting, barytes, chrome green, chrome yellow, rouge, ground cork, wood flour, cotton lint and a vulcanization accelerator, e.g. tetramethyl thiuram disulphide, may be added. The compositions may be cured at temperatures above 135 DEG C. They may be extruded on to wires or calendered on to fabrics before curing. They may be formed into surgical goods, tyres, upholstery, footwear and wrapping films. Specification 523,248 is referred to.ALSO:A solid copolymer having a molecular weight above 15,000 made by copolymerizing an isoolefine and a conjugated diolefine as described in the parent Specification, is compounded with sulphur and a wax.
