Abstract

569,149. Aircraft arrester gear. MILES AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and MILES, G. H. Nov. 1, 1943, No. 18060. [Class 4] Aircraft arrester gear comprises a series of horizontal cross wires 1, the ends of which are connected through resilient links 3 to pegs 2 driven into the landing surface, and through connections 4 to chains 6 or other bodies of substantial mass producing the retarding force. Extensible links 5 and safety links 7 are provided between the connections 4 and chains 6. The pegs 2 may be withdrawn from the landing surface as the aircraft engages the successive cross wires. A single length of retarding chain may be used, connected to the ends of the arrester wires.
